Introducing the IQ3 100mp – The first 100 megapixel sensor

Phase One has always strived to offer our customers the ultimate photographic flexibility. They were the first to offer Full Frame Medium Format CCD systems and now the first to offer a Full Frame Medium Format CMOS solution. The Phase One XF 100MP Camera System offers the same great advantages of full frame usability with the added benefits of CMOS. No lens crop factors, no focus screen masks, just uncompromised image quality from edge to edge.

Color Built for Cultural Heritage

Professional color management has always been an essential part of ensuring Phase One shooters get the ultimate image quality they demand. Phase One’s own Image Professor, Niels V. Knudsen and his team have worked for decades perfecting the color response of Phase One hardware. The Phase One Color is not just a science but a passion that runs deep at Phase One.

Built for robustness from the ground up.

Phase One Systems have been used for decades in some of the most demanding professional applications. With the XF Camera System we have upgraded all moving parts and materials, delivering the fastest, most robust and most reliable camera system we have ever made.
Using full-frame Medium Format sensors 2.5 times larger than the ones found in high-end DSLRs, XF delivers a powerful combination of the highest possible resolution together with large, high dynamic range pixels with exceptional wide angular response.

Preservation Quality

Typically our solution for digitizing objects comprises of a Phase One XF body and a Phase One digital back. These components are highly interoperable with the rest of our product line. For instance, an institution that purchased a [DT RGC180 + DT RCam + Phase One IQ380] for scanning newspapers would only need to add the Phase One XF to digitize objects and oversized materials.

Powersharing

The XF can share power with IQ3 series digital backs. This means battery power can be shared; if the back battery is low it can draw instead off the body or vice-versa. Moreover, when shooting tethered you can use FireWire or AC power to run both the back and the body; no need to change batteries in either.

Backwards compatiable

The XF is compatible with every Phase One back released since 2010. That includes every IQ1 and IQ2 back; that’s a dozen models in all.

Faster Tethering

Recently we spent a few hours with a “competitive” brand of medium format digital cameras; it was a stark reminder of just how far ahead of its competition Phase One is when it comes to tethering. Even when shooting dozens of 80mp frames in a row, the most recent capture is shown in Capture One almost immediately after capture. Regardless, Phase One is not resting on its laurels. With Capture One 8.3 and the IQ3 (and IQ2 after firmware update) Phase One tweaked every part of the capture pipeline to increase the speed of tethering even further. Phase One is claiming up to 30% faster shot-to-preview times.

New Autofocus Platform

The XF is introducing a new patent pending, and fully Phase One developed, autofocus system; The Honeybee Autofocus Platform (HAP-1). Using a unique floating-point architecture and a fully programmable interface, HAP-1 is the most precise Phase One system ever built and will be easy to expand for years to come.

Better. Faster. Stronger

Upgrade

A benefit of modularity is photographer’s ability to easily upgrade a single component at a time. With a modular design there is no need to discard a perfectly good system only to gain features related to the camera body. The XF Camera System is compatible with all generations of IQ Digital Backs. We already prepared the IQ2 range of Digital Backs for the XF Camera System, so they get almost full access to the same features as the IQ3 range, simply by applying a firmware upgrade. The IQ1 range of Digital Backs gains access to the same level of functionality as they have on current systems, but with the many added benefits of the XF Camera Body, such as improved speed, reliability, sensors and autofocus.

  • Electronic first Curtain Shutter

The addition of “Electronic First Curtain Shutter” to the XF 100MP Camera System means a further reduction in adverse vibration effects on high-resolution images. The benefit of EFCS is a significant reduction in camera vibration as it allows less mechanical dependency, which greatly improves sharpness when using shutter speeds that demand the steadiest conditions. The EFCS is worry free as it automatically activates when using Vibration Delay or activating Mirror Up.

  • Shoot clean with ISO 50 - 12800

By combining new sensor technology and years of experience in noise suppression through Capture One software, the Phase One XF 100MP ISO range delivers unparalleled creative freedom and performance in all shooting conditions. With a previously unthinkable base ISO of 50, the Phase One XF 100MP delivers the flexibility of longer exposures and unrestricted use of fast lenses, all while providing the cleanest possible results. Expanding on CMOS technology, the XF 100MP can offer higher ISO versatility and, with Capture One software, retain excellent noise suppression and file rendering.

  • A Joint Sensor Partnership

Phase One and Sony have been development partners for years, the 50MP sensor being the first milestone of our cooperation, now found in the XF IQ3 50MP. Creating the full frame sibling to the 50MP CMOS system has been a top priority of Phase One for years. Phase One sensor experts have been working hard to optimize the complete use of the 100MP sensor for the worlds most demanding photographers.

  • Output via Wi-fi, USB and now HDMI

With the Phase One XF 100MP Camera System delivering a consistent high-quality Live View feed, it is possible to output the feed through Wi-Fi, USB or the newly added HDMI output port. Whether you are shooting tethered to a computer, connected to Capture Pilot via Wi-Fi, or attach a field monitor using the new HDMI port, you can use Live View to efficiently elevate the precision of your focus and composition. HDMI output creates substantial opportunities for your workflow, be it onset to an external display or in the field for a more robust Live View experience, the HDMI output provides you with composition tools and a workflow that works for you.
